The Insparya Group
Founded by Portuguese manager Paulo Ramos and soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, Insparya is a Clinical Medical, Scientific and Technological Group dedicated exclusively to diagnosis, treatment and research in the field of alopecia. After 14 years of experience, over 50,000 hair transplants and the opening of 10 centers in three countries-Spain, Portugal and Italy – Insparya aims to position itself as the top expert in follicular unit research and continues to make pioneering use of technology to achieve the best results, offering all those suffering from alopecia an effective solution that, in most cases, will radically transform their lives.
Insparya establishes itself as a leader and promoter of knowledge in the fields in which it operates, and, every day, its clinical team works to develop innovative projects and find solutions to the most demanding hair health problems.
Guided by Paulo Ramos, CEO of the Insparya Group, more than 400 people trained in all specialties – physicians, nurses, clinical consultants and researchers – and in constant growth and training, comprise the team of professionals at Insparya Centers, which also benefits from the experience and recognition of the world’s most prestigious societies, both at the clinical and research levels.
The new BotHair Ultra Plus technology.
The Insparya Group has launched, still in the testing phase, two pioneering and innovative projects that are still being developed at the Insparya Science and Clinical Institute by a team of 8 researchers coordinated by Dr. Carlos Portinha, Insparya’s Chief Clinical Officer.
It involves a new technology, BotHair Ultra Plus, for hair extraction and implantation and a robotic design that will allow the complete automation of the hair transplantation procedure with the help of a robotic arm.
A major innovation in the field of hair transplantation
The new extraction and implantation device performs even more precise extraction of follicular units, so that aspiration and storage can be performed immediately.
This eliminates one of the steps of transplantation, avoiding manipulation of the follicular unit and reducing the risk of damaging it (which could compromise its viability and reduce its ability to produce new hair in the future), and decreasing the duration of the transplantation procedure.
Once the extraction is done, the follicular unit is stored in a cold room at 4 degrees Celsius, an ideal temperature to keep it in perfect condition, where it is immersed in a solution that maintains its quality and vitality.
Another innovation is that this same device also allows for faster and more precise follicular implantation. It is in fact equipped with an automatic multi-implantation that will drastically reduce the handling of follicular units, reducing by as much as 25 times the transplantation time and the number of movements needed to perform it.
This is not only a benefit for the patient, but also for the medical teams, since, thanks to this device, it will no longer be necessary to transplant 4,000 follicular units one by one, as used to be done in the past. It follows that by reducing physical exertion, the quality of the
work of employees because the same surgery can be performed in only 160 movements instead of 4,000.
Finally, the reduced manipulation of the follicular units also ensures a significantly higher quality end result.
Development and design 100% Made in Insparya.
The entire device was thought of by Insparya, from the design of all parts to the micro-implantter used in the extraction of the follicular unit, through the software used, which allows the work to be customized as needed (for example, by changing the speed or direction of rotation of the implanter within the allowed parameters).
This new device is one of the components of the robot currently under development, which will be able to perform the entire hair transplant from start to finish, under supervision and programming of the medical staff. The ultimate goal is not to completely eliminate human intervention, but to be able to follow the steps of a transplant being performed in another city, intervening and assisting the doctor as needed, without the need to be physically present.
At the moment, the device’s certification process is nearing completion, but it is already being tested, with excellent results, on patients in Porto and Madrid, with the goal of then going into full operation in all Insparya Group centers.
Insparya’s Hair Thickening System.
Insparya’s new Hair Thickening System is a customized treatment developed to adapt to the individual needs of the patient and solve any issues related to hair health.
The device adapts perfectly to the patient’s head using liquid or solid medical adhesives (FDA-certified) and without the need for shaving, thus meeting the needs of all those who suffer from alopecia or have low hair density. This solution is particularly suitable for individuals suffering from frontal fibrous alopecia, secondary scarring alopecia, traction alopecia, diffuse alopecia and universal alopecia, and for cancer patients.
The process is developed in 7 steps: it starts with an exact reproduction of the patient’s head through a 3D scanner that allows the exact points where intervention is needed to be identified and highlighted. It then proceeds with the creation of the prosthesis – the base of which consists of a biomedically engineered, dermatologically tested polymer resin membrane – onto which virgin hair of A+++ quality is then manually grafted, corresponding to the natural type, distribution and thickness of the patient’s original hair.
This first stage is followed by a precise 3D digital reading of the ends of the head, made with Insparya’s most innovative technologies, and then a plaster replica of the skull is made.
Next, to achieve a perfect color match, various combinations of natural hair are sought. Insparya uses only natural, unprocessed virgin hair, in which the cuticle (the outer layer) is completely intact. Natural pigments from the scalp are then added to the laboratory-produced polymer base, which is the support for implanting the hair and will become like a second scalp for patients. At this point, we proceed with the manual hair insertion phase, respecting the natural distribution, movement and direction of the hair.
Once all steps are completed, the resulting prosthesis can be implanted at the Insparya center. The use of this technique guarantees the patient an optimal result for 3 years, during which time, however, it is important to perform regular checkups-about every 3 to 4 weeks-at an Insparya center, where patients can also take advantage of a hairdressing service to style lla new hair according to their preferences.
This new solution developed by Insparya, which is patented and ISO certified, has several advantages. First of all, it is a non-invasive procedure that does not involve shaving and, thanks to the use of the highest quality virgin hair and biocompatible materials, guarantees the patient a 100 percent natural end result. In addition, Insparya’s hair implant system can be combined with other techniques such as, for example, hair transplantation.
The Insparya Group as a benchmark in technological and biomedical research
Research is at the core of the Insparya Group and is coordinated by Dr. Carlos Portinha (Chief Clinical Officer of the Group). Currently, it is the only group specializing in hair transplant surgeries that, in addition to having 14 years of clinical experience behind it, can also count on an investment in development and research of 2 million euros per year, allocated to the two main areas of research – technological and biomedical – of the Insparya Science and Clinical Institute.
The Group is dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis, treatment and research of alopecia, with the goal of positioning itself as an expert in the follicular unit and a pioneer in all treatments and technologies in this area. The company constantly updates and innovates mesotherapy procedures, providing its medical teams with only modern and innovative technology and the most effective products.
Technological Research
Insparya’s research team is currently composed of 8 engineers plus dottor Carlos Portinha, coordinator of technological and biomedical research, working in close collaboration with leading universities, such as the Department of Robotics of the University of Coimbra or the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
Having an in-house research team is crucial for the Group, because it allows it to continue researching and improving its devices through tests performed directly with patients, subject to their consent. In this way, Insparya’s research advances quickly, always ensuring quality and great results for patients.
Biomedical Research
Insparya is the only group specializing in hair transplantation that invests in this type of research.
Currently, the team is composed of 5 specialists, in addition to Dr. Carlos Portinha, who collaborate with the I3S Research Institute to achieve the goal of multiplying follicular unit cells so that all patients can have the opportunity to benefit from a transplant even in cases where the donor area is not large enough.
Although there is already a lot of information available about alopecia, since it is a multifactorial condition (hormonal influence, inflammatory, stress, anxiety, etc.) Insparya’s goal is to investigate its causes more thoroughly.
For this, the Group is also consulting with Elsa Logarinho, PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Porto, one of the most influential names in stem cell research, thus initiating the collaboration with the Institute of Innovation and Health I3S.
This institute was born from the union of three of the most prestigious scientific centers of the University of Porto – the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC), the National Institute of Biomedical Engineering (INEB) and the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology (IPATIMUP) – and is the largest Portuguese research institute in the field of health sciences.
Thanks to this collaboration, Insparya has published scientific studies, a new protocol for the preservation of follicular units and a line of shampoos without parabens, salts or alcohol based on algae (very valuable for hair health), but also designed mesotherapy treatments that are very effective in combating androgenic alopecia.
Specialists in alopecia and hair transplantation
Alopecia is a multifactorial condition–due to genetic, pharmacological, infectious, traumatic, nutritional, and dermatological causes, among others–and manifests itself in a variety of ways, including breakage, thinning, miniaturization, and abnormal hair loss, up to the total disappearance of normally affected areas such as the head, beard, and eyebrows. This is a widespread disorder, especially among individuals of European ethnicity, with an incidence of around 50 percent in men and 30 percent in women.
People suffering from this disorder and its obvious aesthetic consequences can see their quality of life severely compromised, with the risk that their self-esteem but also their general health and well-being will be severely damaged. Isolation, degradation of social relationships, and stress generated by the frustration that results from the unsuccessful search for effective treatment are some of the consequences of this disease. Moreover, to date, there is no truly effective medical protocol to prevent alopecia.
However, there is an innovative way to successfully solve this problem: hair transplantation. This is an outpatient procedure that involves extracting the patient’s own hair — thus avoiding the risk of rejection — from the back and side regions of the head and implanting it in the areas where baldness has gained ground. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and, in 100 percent of cases, excellent results are obtained, which can restore the patient’s quality of life and solve the problem forever. In addition, it has no particular contraindications.
Hair Treatments
The Insparya Group offers its patients the innovative and effective treatments, such as mesotherapy mesoHAir+, a self-developed hair biostimulation and nutrition treatment that consists of the subcutaneous administration of a preparation that biologically activates the cells of the follicular unit and can thereby promote the production of hair of higher quality and strength; photobiomodulation, which stimulates both blood circulation and quality hair production by the follicular unit; and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), a treatment that involves harnessing platelet-derived growth factors.
Exclusive products for hair health
Insparya has developed a line of hair care products whose ingredients and properties enable the care and treatment of hair and scalp. These are products developed with exclusive formulas in its own research center. A range of five shampoos, available in all centers and on the website, intended both for regular use and for the treatment of any symptoms that may occur in the hair, such as oiliness, dandruff, irritation or hair loss.
Paulo Ramos
CEO of Insparya
When I was very young, more precisely when I was 19 years old, I suffered firsthand from alopecia, and this greatly impacted my self-esteem. That’s how I became aware of the importance of image and how it is reflected in health and well-being. Until I started losing my hair, I had no idea that this condition was so debilitating. On medical advice, I underwent various topical and dermatological treatments and also invested a lot of money in the search for a solution that, unfortunately, did not prove effective.
In this way I realized that there was really a long way to go in this area, as the techniques and procedures used were rudimentary and, in terms of technology, there was no effective answer.
Today alopecia is recognized as a real disease in the WHO International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and, globally, it affects more than 50 percent of men and about 30 percent of women.
This situation made me realize that this hereditary disease has a strong impact at all levels: it causes isolation, lack of social interaction, resort to unsuccessful medications and treatments that, in the medium and long term, cause irreparable consequences to the health and well-being of thousands of people. of men, women and adolescents.
This awareness motivated me and prompted me to found a center to help all people suffering from these kinds of problems, and from the very beginning, my goal was to give life to an innovative project, based on effective treatments and a strong commitment to the area of technological and scientific research and development.
All this, always putting first the patients who come to us in search of a solution that, in most cases, will radically transform their lives.
And it is precisely to fulfill this mission that, in 2019, we created the Insparya Group with Cristiano Ronaldo – who had recognized the quality and success of the work done for more than 10 years by Saúde Viável in Portugal – and opened the first center in Madrid.
On the strength of the success achieved in Portugal and Spain, with more than 45,000 transplants and 100 public figures who have already used our services and who do not hesitate to testify to the effectiveness of the results, we decided that the time had come to help patients in other countries and chose Italy as the next step in our expansion path.
Insparya uses the most sophisticated technology, invests in continuing education programs and research, and collaborates with the most prestigious medical, scientific and technological study centers.
In addition, in terms of social responsibility, we are committed to ensuring that services, treatments and products are accessible to all who suffer from this disease.
Today with Insparya, regaining the hair of one’s dreams is a desire within everyone’s reach, because everyone has the right to smile when looking in the mirror.
Cristiano Ronaldo
“My professional life has been marked by continuous challenges, several obstacles and many victories, but it has always been driven by a great sense of dedication, determination, ambition and self-improvement. These are aspects that, over time, have forged my character and proved instrumental in all my successes.”
“Insparya best concretizes my vision for the future; it is a starting point to discover and explore new possibilities in the field of Medicine, Research and Technology.”
Cristiano has been the main source of inspiration for the Insparya project and, today, his personality, determination and seriousness continue to be reflected in all the areas in which he is involved.
Always discreet in his intentions, thanks to Insparya he has begun to shape a greater ambition: to put his skills at the service not only of sports, where his name is already known, but also of health.
Cristiano Ronaldo strongly wanted the next step in the Group’s expansion path to be Italy, a country that, from the very beginning, welcomed him in the best possible way and made him feel at home.
We seek excellence, we work for perfection.
