TRICOPIGMENTATION (SCALP MICRO PIGMENTATION – SMP)

WHAT IS IT? DOES IT WORK? IS IT USED BY DOCTORS?

Hair pigmentation is a technique that consists in the optical reconstruction of a hair shaved effect in areas affected by hair deficiency via punctiform deposits of pigment that are inserted into the surface layer of the dermis using special needles specifically designed for the scalp.

Instrumentation, techniques and pigments differ from those of tattoo and from those of micropigmentation.

This evolution has allowed to guarantee optimum results, both in the case of coverage of thinned areas and in its successive integration with hair transplant surgery.

Milena Lardi, internationally recognized technician and moderator of the SMP section of our forum on www.bellicapelliforum.it, is a specialist in the field, and has imparted tens of courses to surgeons who are considered among the best in the world. This a demonstration of the fact that both the specific technique as well as the concept of “micropigmentation” begins to assert themselves as firmly approved techniques and used by the medical-surgical world as a valid solution for integration with dermatology and surgery.

TATTOO, MICROPIGMENTATION AND SCALP MICRO PIGMENTATION

SMP is a specific area of micropigmentation.

Micropigmentation is an aesthetic specialty that provides for the introduction of specific pigments in the superficial dermis in order to beautify, correct and change some parts of the face or body.

Micropigmentation is divided into COSMETIC, RECONSTRUCTIVE or PARAMEDICAL and SMP

  • Aesthetic Micropigmentation = permanent makeup.
  • Micropigmentation -Reconstructive – Paramedical= cover scars, areola, vitiligo etc,.
  • SMP = reconstruction designed to simulate hair in areas affected by follicle deficit.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TATTOO AND SMP:

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TATTOO AND SMP:

Micropigmentation/SMP differs from classic tattoo in various aspects:

• In the planting depth of the pigment
• In the equipment used
• In the pigments used
• In the training

INSERTION DEPTH OF THE PIGMENT

Scalp skin is different from that of the rest of the body.
In the epidermis, in fact, there is a particular dermal layer, extremely rich in pilosebaceous glands, and with unique and specific characteristics.

Micropigmentation cannot prescind from this aspect and from this arises the need of SMP, i.e. a careful and exclusive technique dedicated to the treatment of the scalp.
The great risk, in fact, to inoculate pigment into the skin with these characteristics without the use of suitable needles, pigments and instruments is to not control the deposit of color and to create patches and stains.

SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT

For SMP specially designed instruments are used to apply a certain number of beats of the needle. The needle works only in a perpendicular direction, has a smooth tip and a rough wall to collect the pigment
The dermographer or tricograph does not have a spring return, and it’s extremely rigid to avoid any kind of flicker that would generate inaccuracies.

SPECIFIC PIGMENTIS

SMP pigments are bio-resorbable
Its disappearance is estimated in a two year lapse
The SMP pigments are made in a laboratory to have specific characteristics relating to absorbability, extreme tolerability, absence of color change etc,.

TRAINING

The tricopigmentist is an experienced SMP technician who has followed a specific training and uses equipment and specific instruments for such use.
